Inclusion

At Heartwood Church of England VC Primary and Nursery School, inclusion is rooted in our Christian ethos and lived out through our core values of Respect, Service, Friendship, Courage, Responsibility and Compassion.

We are committed to giving all our children every opportunity to achieve the highest standards. We do this by taking account of pupils’ varied life experiences and needs. We offer a broad and balanced curriculum and have high expectations for all children. The achievement, attitude and well-being of every child matters, and inclusion is the responsibility of every person within the school community. We recognise and respect the richness that diversity brings to our community.

Our inclusive approach reflects our Christian values:

Respect – treating every child with dignity

Service – supporting and advocating for those in need

Friendship – building relationships that help all children feel they belong

Courage – standing up for fairness and challenging discrimination

Responsibility – ensuring every adult plays a part in making inclusion a reality

Compassion – responding with understanding, patience and empathy

Aims and Objectives:

The school ensures that children and young people with identified needs can engage successfully in all school activities alongside their peers, including making reasonable adjustments for those pupils with a disability so that they have good access to the curriculum and wider school learning environment.

Ensuring full participation:

Children with identified needs engage fully in all activities alongside peers.

Reasonable adjustments are made to ensure pupils with disabilities have full access to the curriculum and wider school life.

Working collaboratively:

We work closely with parents, the Local Authority and outside agencies to understand each child’s needs and strengths.

Developing staff expertise:

Staff receive high-quality training so they are confident and skilled in meeting diverse needs.

Promoting independence and resilience:

We nurture courage, confidence and self-belief so pupils are well prepared for future transitions and adulthood.

Inclusive Specialist Provision

As part of our enhanced offer at Heartwood we have 'Inclusive Specialist Provision'. Our inclusive specialist provision is a safe, supportive, and temporary intervention with clear entry and exit criteria, designed for pupils who are currently finding it difficult to fully access learning in the mainstream classroom.

It provides personalised support to build their resilience, independence, and confidence. Through tailored strategies and a holistic approach, we help each child make progress in line with academic standards, EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) outcomes, and their individual needs.

Our aim is to support successful reintegration into the mainstream setting, equipped with the tools to thrive both socially and academically.

Where reintegration is not appropriate, the provision offers a stable, supportive environment while we work closely with families and professionals to identify a more suitable long-term setting.
